As I sat this morning contemplating what I could say in the President's message, a song came on the radio saying
something about "capturing time in a capsule". That obviously is not what I have been doing, as I am writing
this, as usual, at the very last moment. People often say,"You have lots of time, you"re retired" . I guess I
just don't make good use of it, as I don't get the things I should do finished, let alone the things I would like to
do. In an organization like this, when everyone does their bit, it makes the load much lighter for all.

Have you ever wondered where time goes? One of the purposes of the Historic Society is to preserve a
record of times past; but we certainly have not learned how to preserve time!

With our Annual Meeting in September, we ended one year and began another, officially
our fourth. I feel we were able to provide a good variety of programmes last
year. The display of Darlingside material at the Lansdowne Fair was well received.
The Heritage Fair, expanded to include an Antique Tractor Pull, took good advantage
of the perfect weather October 1 st.

Here we are with our second newsletter of the 1994-95 season. Earlier in the year, your
Executive decided to publish newsletters in November and May only, rather than the three
we had originally planned. We are sorry for the delay in this issue.

At our inaugural meeting in May 1992, we did not have enough present to
elect a full slate of officers. As of our second annual meeting, September 8,
1994, we have over 90 members. Our growth and progress has been steady.

The response to the Newsletter has been heartening. It appears that there is
considerable interest in our history.
Our philosophy is to provide some insight into our past in the Township. With
an end to stimulating interest more than being definitive, we plan a number of
articles each number. We want to profile both people and places in the
Township. To do that, we need help with pictures and stories.
The work of our two archivists has given us a good start.
